What Would Be Trees

Growing up, Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree” made an impression on me. Is it a stretch to imagine a tree can have a soul, enjoy it’s existence, know it’s purpose? My illustration depicts a cut forest. The tree rings form the shape of homes, suggesting the lumber when to construction. Did the trees really need to be cut down at that time if at all? The issue I want to bring to light encompasses deforestation, over population, misuse of land and cheap construction.
