About The Urban Forest Project

This site documents before and during the project. Project completed June 28th, 2008.

The Urban Forest Project is a growing national exhibition that took root in Baltimore spring 2008! The exhibition spaned all through Baltimore city into 6 area parks. During this entire project from organization to execution - we enjoyed many collaborative relationships within the Baltimore community. We were inspired by the way our community came together to support the Urban Forest Project. These strong partnerships are proof that by continuing to work together we can create a city that thrives through sustainability, community stewardship and relying on each other as resources.

In the Urban Forest Project, banners were our primary visual communication vehicles for sharing our important message.

A non-profit organization, Baltimore-based Tilt Studio Foundation, Inc. discovered this project when it ran in NYC in 2006 via World Studio Foundation and Times Square Alliance.

The project brought together more than 450 LOCAL artists, designers, college students, K-12 students and area businesses to create awareness for making Baltimore more sustainable. Each participant was asked to design a banner based on the sustainability of a tree. The results were remarkable and were displayed throughout the City of Baltimore! (View the Banners)

After the closing at the end of June, the banners were recycled into tote bags and sold as original works of functional art. All proceeds from the project benefited the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks Tree Baltimore Campaign for a greener city.
